Saturday Night Live faces criticism following contentious humor involving Stranger Things cast members

Saturday Night Live encountered significant viewer criticism following the January 18 episode hosted by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, with audiences expressing disapproval over multiple controversial moments throughout the broadcast.

During his opening monologue, Wolfhard discussed his experiences maturing in the public spotlight while filming the popular Netflix series. The actor referenced how various personal milestones occurred while cameras rolled, including physical changes during adolescence and his first on-screen kiss.

The monologue drew particular ire when Wolfhard made a comparison between female anatomy and the Demogorgon, the series' monstrous antagonist. The joke prompted immediate reactions across social media platforms, with critics labeling the humor as crude and inappropriate.

Social media users condemned the material, questioning the quality of SNL's writing and expressing disappointment in the show's direction. Some viewers wondered whether such content represented the program's typical standards, while others defended the comedian, arguing the joke constituted harmless crude humor rather than genuinely offensive material.

Netflix has officially begun rolling out its 2026 film slate, offering fans an early look at some of its most anticipated projects. Leading the announcement is the first look at Enola Holmes 3, which marks Millie Bobby Brown’s next major project following her breakout success on Stranger Things. Alongside this reveal, the streamer confirmed release plans for a wide range of films spanning mystery, romance, drama, animation, and franchise finales, reinforcing its commitment to big name talent and global storytelling.

Brown returns as the sharp witted younger sister of Sherlock Holmes in the third installment of the Enola Holmes series. This time, Enola’s journey takes her to Malta, where her personal ambitions and professional instincts collide on a case described as more dangerous and complex than anything she has faced before. Louis Partridge once again stars alongside Brown, while familiar faces Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter, Himesh Patel, and Sharon Duncan Brewster round out the supporting cast. The film is slated for release this summer and is expected to build on the success of the previous entries, which proved to be strong performers for Netflix.

Saturday Night Live returned to one of its most talked about sketches of the fall season with a new installment of Snack Homiez a spinoff of the viral Boys Podcast sketch. The sketch originally appeared during the episode hosted by Sabrina Carpenter and quickly became a breakout moment for the show thanks to its sharp parody of youth podcasters and online snack culture. In its latest return SNL leaned into what made the sketch popular in the first place while adding a few new twists and familiar faces.

Prioritizing a massive $82.7 billion merger with Netflix, the board of Warner Bros. Discovery has unanimously turned down an improved buyout offer from David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance. Chairman Samuel Di Piazza explained that the Netflix deal—which includes the sale of the WBD studio and HBO—remains the superior option across "multiple key areas." The decision reinforces WBD’s commitment to the strategic pivot it finalized last December, despite continued pressure from rival bidders.

Ludwig Göransson won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score for his work on Sinners, though viewers watching the broadcast may not have realized it.

The 2026 Golden Globes aired live on CBS on Sunday, January 11, from the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. The award for Best Original Score was presented to Göransson

by Charli XCX and Joe Keery during a commercial break rather than during the televised portion of the ceremony.

Before the awards show, fellow composer Hans Zimmer criticized the Golden Globes' decision not to air the category on TV, and later, one of the show's producers explained the reasoning behind it.
