The series will take viewers behind the headlines to explore the careers, controversies and public perceptions surrounding a different athlete in each episode. Rather than asking whether these sports stars deserve the criticism they receive, the series examines how they became figures who attract intense support, criticism and debate.
"The biggest stories in sports are often the ones everyone thinks they already know," Vice TV president Pete Gaffney said. He explained that athletes are frequently judged in real time, sometimes before the full story is understood. According to Gaffney, Everybody Hates will explore how these athletes became symbols of broader cultural conversations.
The premiere episode will focus on Jake Paul, the YouTuber turned professional boxer. Paul has built a major profile in boxing while remaining a divisive figure among fans and critics.
Subsequent episodes will feature NFL stars Aaron Rodgers and Michael Vick, WNBA star Caitlin Clark, international soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo and undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The Aaron Rodgers episode, scheduled for Nov. 3, will examine how the former Green Bay Packers quarterback went from an underdog to one of the most debated personalities in modern sports. Former teammate Tyler Fredrickson and former Packers executive Andrew Brandt are among those featured.
The Nov. 10 episode will focus on Caitlin Clark and her rapid rise in women's basketball. Sports influencer Rachel A. Demita, journalist Jemele Hill and others will explore her impact on the sport, her personality and the media attention surrounding her.
Michael Vick will be the subject of the Nov. 17 episode, which will examine the controversies that followed the former NFL star throughout his career and beyond the football field. Former college football coach and player Robert "Bud" Foster and animal rescue activist Monica Caraffa are among the contributors.
The Nov. 24 episode will turn to Cristiano Ronaldo, examining his global image, career and the relationship between his public brand and personal identity. Los Angeles Times journalist Kevin Baxter and former player Shaka Hislop are among those featured.
The final episode, airing Dec. 1, will focus on Floyd Mayweather Jr. The episode will explore the undefeated boxer's wealth, business empire, career achievements and controversies. Former boxer John "Iceman" Scully and ESPN host Crystina Poncher are among the contributors.
Everybody Hates premieres Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. ET on Vice TV. Select episodes will be available on Vice TV's YouTube channel the following day. The series is produced by Vice Studios.
