David Harbour has exited Behemoth!, an upcoming drama from filmmaker Tony Gilroy and Searchlight Pictures, opting to take time off to rest following the conclusion of Stranger Things.

A representative for Searchlight confirmed to industry outlets that Harbour is no longer attached to the project, which remains in development. The actor had been slated to appear alongside Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde, though his role has since been recast. No replacement has been publicly named.

Details surrounding Behemoth! are being kept under wraps, but the film is described as centering on a musician from a long line of musicians who returns to Los Angeles. Gilroy, best known for his work on the Bourne franchise and Andor, wrote the script and is directing.

Sources familiar with the production said Harbour's departure followed the wrap of Stranger Things, whose fifth and final season concluded a decade-long run for the Netflix hit. The final season's release was accompanied by an extensive press tour, which insiders described as demanding.

Harbour, who portrayed police chief Jim Hopper throughout the series, reprised the role for the final time in season five. The actor has spoken openly in the past about prioritizing his mental health, and those close to the production say the decision to step back was made to allow him time away from work after an intense period.

The lead-up to the series finale was not without controversy. In recent months, rumors circulated online regarding alleged on-set issues involving Harbour and co-star Millie Bobby Brown. Trade reports later stated that an internal review had taken place and the matter was resolved, with showrunners declining to comment on personal cast matters.

Harbour has also faced heightened public attention following his divorce from singer Lily Allen, who referenced their relationship in her recent album. While Allen has described the record as a mix of reality and creative storytelling, Harbour has largely avoided addressing the claims publicly.

Despite the scrutiny, the actor appeared alongside his castmates at the Stranger Things season five premiere, where the group presented a united front. At present, Harbour has no immediate projects announced, with sources suggesting he plans to remain out of the spotlight before returning to work.
