Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum underwent surgery on Tuesday for a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg, the NBA organisation confirmed, and will miss the rest of the title defence in the ongoing play-offs.
The 27-year-old American was injured in the final minutes of this morning's defeat against the New York Knicks (121-113), who lead the series 3-1. Although the Boston Celtics hav not given an estimate for the star's return, the estimated recovery time for an injury of this type is 6 to 8 months, so it's certain that the American will miss the rest of the playoffs. "Jayson Tatum underwent successful surgery today to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. There is no timetable available for his return, but he is expected to make a full recovery. Further updates will be provided as appropriate," the organization's statement read.
The defending champions Celtics, led by Portuguese player Neemias Queta, are in dire straits in the Eastern Conference semi-final series, trailing 3-1 after losing 121-113 to the New York Knicks in the early hours of the morning. The point guard was in good form, with 42 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, until he went down 3 minutes before the final horn.
