As Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and John Legend return as coaches on the NBC singing show's upcoming 29th season, new rules are being implemented to liven up what has been termed The Voice: Battle of Champions, which will premiere on February 23, 2026.

For the first time, the coaches will compete in a "Triple Turn Competition" during the blind auditions, attempting to score the most three-chair turns. The victorious coach will receive a "Super Steal" for the upcoming round, giving them the ability to veto other coaches' attempts to recruit an artist.

If that wasn't enough of a change-up, each coach will bring back two artists from their past teams during the knockouts for head-to-head. sing-offs. The coach with the most sing-off wins is guaranteed a second season with 29 finalists.

In addition, there will be a new "voting block" comprised of former The Voice artists and die-hard fans of the show. During the semi-finals and finale, they will be able to join the in-studio audience and vote live for their season 29 contestants.

The shift in program format came when Carson Daly introduced the Carson Callback Card in season 28. The new power enabled the longtime emcee—who has hosted the show since its inception in 2011—to offer artist Ryan Mitchell a second chance at auditioning for the coaches, with Reba McEntire eventually recruiting him to her squad.

The current season also saw the introduction of the Mic Drop button, which allows coaches to choose one artist from their individual teams to compete for the opportunity to play at the Rose Parade on January 1.

So far, Michael Bublé has used the button on his teammate Max Chambers, while Niall Horan recently chose the trio DEK of Hearts.
