After years of speculation about the future of Euphoria, HBO has officially confirmed that the hit drama has come to an end with its third season.

The announcement was made by creator Sam Levinson during an appearance on Popcast, the New York Times music podcast, before HBO later confirmed the news. The Season 3 finale, titled In God We Trust, now serves as the show's official series finale.

Speaking about the decision to end the series, Levinson explained that the story had reached its natural conclusion. "In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me," he said.

The finale delivered several shocking moments, including the deaths of central characters Rue Bennett and Nate Jacobs, played by Zendaya and Jacob Elordi, respectively. Levinson revealed that Rue's fate was partly inspired by a desire to honor the late Angus Cloud, who portrayed fan-favorite Fezco and died in 2023.

"It was a way of honoring Angus and saying a prayer for the future," Levinson said.

The confirmation comes after a challenging journey for the series. More than four years passed between Seasons 2 and 3 as production faced multiple obstacles, including industry strikes, scheduling conflicts involving its increasingly high-profile cast, and the deaths of both Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.

Even before the official announcement, many fans suspected Season 3 would be the final chapter. Several cast members, including Zendaya, had previously hinted that the story was nearing its end, while Levinson himself had been hesitant to discuss the possibility of a fourth season.

Despite its popularity, the latest season also generated controversy. Levinson faced criticism over the portrayal of Cassie's OnlyFans storyline, with some viewers and content creators questioning how the platform and its users were depicted on screen.

However, the creator defended the creative choices, saying the goal was to balance Cassie's fantasy with the reality of her situation. Levinson and cinematographer Marcell Rév also explained that the visual approach was carefully designed to highlight both the appeal and the darker aspects of her online persona.

First premiering in 2019, Euphoria followed a group of teenagers navigating addiction, relationships, identity, trauma and social pressures. Across three seasons and two special episodes, the series became one of HBO's most talked-about dramas and earned critical acclaim, including multiple Emmy wins for Zendaya.

The series concludes after seven years, three seasons and 26 episodes, bringing one of television's most influential teen dramas to a close.
