Nick Jonas has revealed that he once auditioned to play Kristoff in Disney's Frozen but failed to impress during the audition.
The 33-year-old singer and actor shared the story on the Jonas Brothers' Hey Jonas! podcast while speaking with Frozen stars Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad. Jonas said he had auditioned for Kristoff, the character eventually voiced by Jonathan Groff, but arrived without realizing he would be expected to perform a song.
"I went in for Kristoff," Jonas recalled. "I went in and they said, 'OK, what are you going to be singing today?' I said, 'Oh, I don't know.'"
Jonas explained that the audition team then asked whether he had brought sheet music. He said he had not been informed that he needed to prepare anything, leaving him to quickly choose a musical theater song.
"I bombed the audition. It was terrible," he admitted.
Bell, who voices Princess Anna in the franchise, responded bluntly to the confession, joking, "That must have been why you didn't get it."
Gad, however, offered Jonas a more flattering alternative. The actor, who voices Olaf, joked that Jonas would have had better chemistry with Bell than Groff.
"You have such better chemistry with Kristen than Groff," Gad said.
Jonas played along with the joke, responding, "I love Jonathan Groff, but I do think it would have been better to cast me."
Despite missing out on the role, Jonas said he did not hold a grudge against the film. He described himself and his family as "huge fans" and said he "really enjoyed" watching Frozen.
The 2013 animated movie became a major box-office success, earning hundreds of millions worldwide and spawning the 2019 sequel, Frozen 2, which went on to surpass its predecessor commercially. A third installment in the franchise is also in development.
