Chelsea announced on Wednesday that Raheem Sterling has left the club and is now a free agent. The longtime Premier League star’s departure was confirmed via a brief statement in which the London club thanked him for his contributions and wished him well in the next stage of his career. The move brings an end to the 31-year-old winger’s tenure at Stamford Bridge, allowing him to negotiate with new teams immediately.

He finishes his Chelsea career with 19 goals and 15 assists in 86 appearances over two seasons, a dropoff from his salad days at Manchester City.

The 31-year-old hasn’t played for Chelsea since the end of the 2023-24 season, spending last season on loan to Arsenal and making 28 appearances with a goal and five assists.

The 82-times capped England forward — 20 goals, 27 assists — has not appeared for the Three Lions since an 11- minute stint against France in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals.

Sterling ranks 19th all-time in Premier League assists (65) and he’s been stalled on the all-time goals list in a tie for 20th with Dwight Yorke at 123. It’s clear that Sterling will have options despite his slow past few seasons on the club circuit.

Decent money would probably await him in Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer, but Sterling could continue his PL career stats leaders climb while trying to impress Thomas Tuchel ahead of the World Cup by staying in the division.

Fulham have agreed a £27m transfer with Manchester City for winger Oscar Bobb, with sources confirming that a deal between the two clubs has now been finalised.

BBC Sport reported earlier this week that negotiations were nearing completion, and those close to the situation say the attacker is set to make the move to Craven Cottage. As part of the agreement, City will retain a 20% sell on clause and matching rights should Fulham accept a future offer for the player. City have previously used similar rights, most recently when they re signed goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley after Newcastle also submitted a bid.

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Monday backed a proposed fan boycott of World Cup matches in the United States because of the conduct of President Donald Trump and his administration at home and abroad.

Blatter was the latest international soccer figure to call into question the suitability of the United States as a host country. He called for the boycott in a post on X that supported Mark Pieth’s comments in an interview last week with the Swiss newspaper Der Bund.

Manchester United handed Arsenal their first home defeat of the season with a dramatic 3-2 victory on Sunday, a result that reopened the Premier League title race. Aston Villa also took advantage as they beat Newcastle 2-0 to move within four points of the league leaders.

Villa's win at St James' Park lifted Unai Emery's side level on points with Manchester City, who were among the beneficiaries of Arsenal's slip at the Emirates Stadium. The weekend's results have tightened the race at the top and renewed belief among several challengers.

Just a week after dismantling City in the Manchester derby, United continued their strong run under new manager Michael Carrick. Matheus Cunha was the hero in north London, scoring a spectacular late winner to silence the home crowd and cap a memorable comeback.

Arsenal had taken the lead through a Lisandro Martinez own goal, but their advantage did not last long. Bryan Mbeumo punished a mistake by Martin Zubimendi to bring United level, before Patrick Dorgu struck early in the second half to put the visitors ahead.
