Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi said last week that the Brazil forward had expressed a desire to leave, with his former club Everton emerging as a possible destination. However, a return to Goodison Park did not materialise before the deadline.
The 29-year-old has now been excluded from Tottenham's squad for Premier League matches during the first half of the season. It is understood the forward does not form part of De Zerbi's plans and was informed of the club's position before the transfer window closed.
Richarlison could still leave Tottenham in the coming days, with transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remaining open.
The striker joined Tottenham from Everton in the summer of 2022 after spending four years at the Merseyside club, having moved there from Watford in 2018.
Richarlison is now entering the final year of his Tottenham contract. He started the club's opening Premier League match of the season, a defeat by Brentford, but was left out of the squad for Saturday's 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.
Following the Newcastle defeat, De Zerbi was asked about Richarlison's situation and indicated that the player's desire to leave had influenced the decision.
"Richarlison, I don't know. He said too many times he wants to leave," the Spurs boss said.
Earlier in August, De Zerbi had acknowledged that Richarlison's future was uncertain, while also admitting that replacing the Brazilian would not be straightforward.
"It's not easy to find another striker like Richarlison," De Zerbi said at the time.
Tottenham have since strengthened their attacking options by bringing in Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush on loan. Marmoush replaced Richarlison in the squad for the Newcastle match, further highlighting the Brazilian's uncertain position within the team.
Despite his current situation, Richarlison was an important player for Tottenham last season. He finished as the club's leading Premier League scorer with 11 goals in 32 appearances and also registered four assists.
His goals proved valuable during Tottenham's difficult campaign, as the club battled to avoid relegation and eventually secured Premier League survival on the final day of the season.
With his future unresolved and the transfer markets in Turkey and Saudi Arabia still open, Richarlison could yet depart Tottenham before the next phase of the campaign.
