Newcastle United secured their first Premier League victory under manager Matthias Jaissle with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Spurs bottom of the table after two consecutive league defeats.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, continuing his impressive start to the season. Newcastle's attack began with an excellent crossfield pass from debutant Nico Gonzalez, who recently joined the club from Manchester City for £52 million. His pass found Amar Dedic, who headed the ball into Elanga's path.
The Swedish winger created room away from former Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali before turning and firing towards goal. His effort struck the post before finding the back of the net.
Newcastle doubled their advantage 10 minutes later when Yoane Wissa produced an acrobatic finish. Nick Woltemade headed a corner towards Wissa, who hooked the ball into the net to score his first Premier League goal for the club since joining from Brentford in a £55 million deal.
Tottenham had opportunities to take control before Newcastle scored but struggled to finish them. Omar Marmoush, making his debut after joining on loan from Manchester City, missed a clear chance from close range, while Pedro Porro also came close.
Marmoush had another opportunity after a strong run from midfield but fired wide. He later forced a comfortable save from Newcastle goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek.
Tonali made his first appearance against Newcastle since leaving the club for Tottenham in a record £100 million transfer during the summer. The midfielder was repeatedly booed by the travelling supporters and was loudly jeered as he was substituted with Newcastle leading 2-0.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi will be concerned by his side's lack of attacking efficiency. Spurs have now lost their opening two league matches and have yet to score in the Premier League this season.
The result continues a difficult run at home, with Tottenham winning only three of their last 23 league matches at their stadium.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have made an encouraging start under Jaissle following Eddie Howe's departure in July. The German coach has overseen a draw against Liverpool, a Carabao Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion and now a Premier League win.
Gonzalez also impressed on his debut despite receiving an early yellow card, while Wissa's return to form will provide further encouragement.
The victory moves Newcastle up to fourth place, while Tottenham remain bottom without a league goal.
