Robert Irwin's long-awaited Dancing With the Stars victory has arrived, and for the 21-year-old conservationist, the moment carries deep family meaning. A decade after his sister Bindi Irwin lifted the Mirrorball Trophy, Robert followed in her footsteps on the season 34 finale, securing the win alongside professional partner Witney Carson. Speaking backstage after the Tuesday, Nov. 25 finale, Robert said the achievement "means everything to me," adding that the journey "has absolutely changed my life."
For Robert, the milestone goes beyond dancing. Watching Bindi win in 2015 helped spotlight the Irwin family's conservation mission, and earning the same honor allowed him to carry that message forward. "It's about making the world a better place," he said. "When I watched her lift that Mirrorball, I saw her lifting that message."
Carson shared equally heartfelt praise for her partner, calling Robert "one of the most deserving winners I've ever danced with" and noting how rewarding it was to watch him grow week after week. Their bond strengthened despite late-season challenges, including a rib injury Robert suffered just days before the finale. Carson revealed in a TikTok video that both of them were "falling apart" after 11 weeks of demanding choreography, but they pushed through.
The finale featured tough competition from Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy, Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa, Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach, and Elaine Hendrix with Alan Bersten. Robert, considered a frontrunner all season, danced with his late father Steve Irwin in mind. Before the semifinals, he shared that he wore two sentimental items each performance day: a button-down shirt and a ring crafted from keys to the Irwin family's childhood home. "These two things keep me close to home and to what's most important to me," he said.
Season 34 leaned heavily into nostalgia, bringing back former pros like Kym Johnson-Herjavec and Cheryl Burke, along with past contestants including Xochitl Gomez and Ariana Madix. Guest judge Tom Bergeron returned for the show's 20th birthday celebration, adding to a season packed with callbacks, standout performances and emotional storytelling.
