NBC announced on Tuesday, July 22, that Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine will return as coaches for season 29, airing in spring 2026. This upcoming season will not only bring back familiar faces but will also introduce a fresh new format titled The Voice: Battle of Champions.

According to a press release, this revamped edition will honor the return of powerhouse coaches, marking the first time in the show's history that all panelists are former winners of The Voice. Each coach will begin the season with 10 artists on their team, and the competition will feature four unique rounds, each incorporating a brand-new twist.

During the Blind Auditions, coaches will face off in a Triple Turn Competition. The winning coach of this round will receive a special advantage heading into the next phase.

In the Battle Rounds, the coach with the most three-chair turns will automatically earn a Super Steal. This new power move can only be used once but will override any other coach's attempt to steal an artist.

The Knockouts will feature a nostalgic twist. Each coach will bring back two fan-favorite contestants from previous seasons for a special in-season all-star competition. These returning artists will represent their former coaches in one-on-one sing-offs. The coach with the highest number of sing-off victories will secure a second finalist spot in the season finale. For this segment, original Voice coach CeeLo Green will return to help determine the winners of each showdown.

The semi-finals will narrow the field to four finalists from the Top 9. For the first time ever, the show will introduce a new voting system involving super fans and past Voice contestants. These fans will join the in-studio audience to vote live during the semi-finals and finale, adding a new level of excitement and real-time engagement.

Clarkson, 43, last appeared as a coach in season 23. She is set to film this upcoming season while also continuing her daytime series, The Kelly Clarkson Show. Legend and Levine, both 46, are returning to the coaching panel after last working together in season 27.
