Psych alum Maggie Lawson is making her return to the law enforcement beat, stepping into a central role in CBS’s upcoming Blue Bloods offshoot, Boston Blue. Lawson joins a strong ensemble cast that includes Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Ernie Hudson.

In Boston Blue, Wahlberg reprises his long-running Blue Bloods role as NYPD Detective Danny Reagan. The spinoff finds Reagan relocating to the Boston Police Department, where he partners with Detective Lena Silver, portrayed by Martin-Green. Lena is introduced as the eldest daughter of a prominent Boston law enforcement family, bringing deep roots and legacy into the dynamic.

Lawson will play Sarah Silver, Lena’s strong-willed and strategic stepsister. Sarah holds the powerful position of Superintendent in the Boston PD and brings a commanding presence to the role. Balancing the responsibilities of her badge and her ties to the complex Silver family, Sarah is described as someone who knows how to walk the tightrope between duty and blood.

Ernie Hudson rounds out the cast as Reverend Peters, the spiritual and familial patriarch of the extended Silver family. His character is the father of Boston’s District Attorney, Mae Silver, and the grandfather or step-grandfather to Lena, Sarah, and rookie patrol officer Isaac Silver.

The series, produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television, brings together showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, with Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg also serving as executive producers. Acclaimed director Anthony Hemingway will helm and executive produce the premiere episode.

Boston Blue is slated to premiere this fall, taking over the Blue Bloods 10 PM Friday night time slot on CBS.

Lawson is best known for her eight-season run as Det. Juliet O’Hara on the fan-favorite USA series Psych, as well as its follow-up movies. More recently, she starred opposite Janel Parrish in the holiday film Sugarplummed and teamed with Psych co-star Corbin Bernsen in the indie pilot Woodstockers. Her TV credits also include Fox’s Outmatched, and recurring roles in Two and a Half Men, Lethal Weapon, The Ranch, and Santa Clarita Diet. Lawson is represented by Gersh and Principal Entertainment.
