Netflix has announced One Shot with Ed Sheeran, an ambitious new musical experience helmed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Philip Barantini, best known for his visually daring drama Adolescence. The experimental project, arriving on November 21, promises to be unlike anything the streaming giant has released before — a real-time, one-take journey following the global superstar through the bustling streets of New York City.
The project, produced by Fulwell 73 and Emmy-winning producer Ben Winston alongside Sheeran and Barantini, will unfold in a single, continuous shot — a hallmark technique that Barantini perfected in Adolescence. In One Shot with Ed Sheeran, the multi-Grammy-winning artist will take viewers on a mesmerizing musical odyssey, performing some of his greatest hits in spontaneous settings. From impromptu moments on busy sidewalks and subway platforms to intimate encounters with fans, the film aims to capture the raw, unfiltered energy that follows one of the world’s most beloved performers.
Adolescence, Barantini’s previous Netflix hit, stunned audiences and critics alike with its audacious storytelling approach, earning 13 Emmy nominations and winning eight, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. The show, which followed the emotional aftermath of a 13-year-old boy’s shocking crime, was praised for its emotional depth and groundbreaking use of the “oner” — a continuous, uninterrupted sequence that demanded extraordinary precision and authenticity from its cast and crew. It starred newcomer Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller and co-creator Stephen Graham as his father, both of whom received Emmys for their powerful performances.
The success of Adolescence has only heightened anticipation for Barantini’s next venture. As One Shot with Ed Sheeran adopts the same one-take technique, expectations are high for a project that merges music, cinema, and performance art into one seamless experience. The film will not only showcase Sheeran’s vocal prowess but also his connection to everyday life and the people who fuel his music.
Sheeran, fresh off the September release of his eighth studio album Play, is preparing to embark on The Loop Tour — his sixth global concert series — beginning December 1 in Paris and running for nearly a year. Meanwhile, Barantini, riding the wave of his double Emmy win for Adolescence, continues his collaboration with Netflix on Enola Holmes 3, starring Millie Bobby Brown.
Ben Winston, a 13-time Emmy winner known for The Late Late Show with James Corden and viral hits like Carpool Karaoke and Crosswalk the Musical, brings his signature production flair to One Shot with Ed Sheeran. His recent credits include The 67th Annual Grammy Awards and A Grammy Salute to Earth, Wind & Fire.
With One Shot with Ed Sheeran, Netflix, Barantini, and Sheeran are pushing creative boundaries once again — blending storytelling, live performance, and cinematic innovation in one bold, continuous take that’s set to captivate audiences worldwide when it premieres on November 21.
