Taylor Swift revealed her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Tuesday in a surprising way, during her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast, New Heights, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce.

Swift started a countdown on her website that ended at 12:12 a.m. Eastern Time, revealing pre-orders for vinyl, cassette, and posters. In a short clip from the podcast shared on Instagram, she opened a teal briefcase with her initials "T.S." and said, "This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl."

While the album's official release date is still unknown, pre-orders include a message saying items "will ship before 13 October, but this is not the release date." Prices for the physical formats range from $12.99 to $29.99.

This album comes after Swift wrapped up her Eras Tour in December 2024, a massive success that included 149 shows in 53 cities and generated nearly £1 billion in the UK alone. The tour helped Swift reach billionaire status.

Her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, came out in 2024 and broke records. Spotify called it its "most-streamed album in a single week, surpassing 1 billion streams." It sold 2.61 million album-equivalent units in its first week in the U.S.

Laura Snapes, deputy music editor at The Guardian, noted that Swift's new album likely continues to explore themes of love. She also pointed out that since Swift rarely gives interviews, her albums often serve as a personal update, reflecting what the singer has been thinking and feeling.

Earlier this year, Swift bought back the rights to her first six albums, describing it as "my greatest dream come true." She emphasized she bought her music "outright with no strings attached, no partnership, full autonomy," after a long dispute with her former label.

Fans are now waiting for more details when Swift appears on New Heights later this week and look forward to hearing the full album.
