Millie Bobby Brown has been candid about her journey into motherhood, revealing how adoption was always part of her childhood dream and how her experiences growing up in the public eye are shaping the way she raises her daughter.
The Stranger Things star, 22, and her husband Jake Bongiovi announced last August that they had welcomed a baby girl through adoption. "This summer we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy," they shared on Instagram.
Brown recently explained on Kylie Kelce's Not Gonna Lie podcast that adoption was something she envisioned from a young age. "Always wanted to adopt. It was part of my childhood dreams," she said, recalling how her dolls were always adopted rather than imagined as biological children. She added, "Adoption is love. Adoption is forever."
Although she hopes to carry children in the future, Brown emphasized that adoption was deeply meaningful to her, shaped by her studies in social work and her research into the experiences of birth mothers. "I loved the aspect of adoption in my social work courses... so meaningful and important. And then I also learned what it, you know, speaking to, and reading a lot about being a birth mother and what that journey is. So for me, my husband and I took a lot of time to focus on what that story and what that journey looks like. And then we embarked it," she said.
Protecting her daughter's privacy remains a priority. Brown told British Vogue she will not reveal her child's name until her daughter is old enough to decide for herself. "It's not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly," she explained.
Despite criticism, Brown says motherhood has brought her overwhelming joy. "Perspective is a huge thing. The smaller things in life are so much more precious. Our days are filled with lots of cuddles and laughter and love. It's just endless joy," she said.
For Brown, raising a daughter carries a special responsibility. "I just take it very seriously to raise a girl that can be proud of who they are and be confident and embrace it," she noted, adding that she wants her child to grow up in a world where women support each other and achieve their dreams.
