Fourteen people were hospitalized after The Chainsmokers performed at an outdoor concert in San Jose, California, on Friday, Sept. 4, with police citing suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues among the medical concerns.
The San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) said it responded to Discovery Meadow at around 8:22 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple people requiring medical attention.
The department quickly requested additional emergency resources, including an Ambulance Task Force, two advanced life support fire units and a Battalion Chief.
A total of 14 ambulances were sent to the five-acre venue, and 14 concertgoers were transported to local hospitals during and after the show.
At least 10 people were taken to hospitals within the final 30 minutes of the concert, according to ABC 7. Paramedics also treated several attendees at the venue as the medical response continued through the end of the event.
San Jose police told NBC Bay Area that those who required medical attention were experiencing a range of medical issues, including "suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues." Authorities have not provided further details about the individual conditions of those hospitalized.
The SJFD said its resources remained at the scene as emergency crews managed the situation. All fire department resources were back in service at approximately 10:34 p.m., about two hours after the initial response.
The San Jose Police Department assisted with traffic control around the venue. No arrests or fatalities were reported.
It remains unclear whether the medical incidents were connected or what specifically prompted the individual calls for assistance.
The Chainsmokers have not publicly commented on the hospitalizations.
The concert began at 5 p.m. and was part of the electronic duo's busy summer schedule. The pair performed at Wynn Las Vegas' Encore Beach Club the following morning, Sept. 5, as part of their ongoing residency at the venue.
