Millie Bobby Brown is opening up about life as a first-time mother, sharing the overwhelming emotions and lessons she has experienced since adopting her baby girl with husband Jake Bongiovi.
The Stranger Things star, 22, and Bongiovi, 24, adopted their daughter in the summer of 2025, a year after marrying. In a UNICEF video released June 1 as part of the "My Parenting Journey" series, Brown admitted that no one prepared her for the depth of love she would feel.
"People say they love their children. I don't understand how that much happens in my heart. The feeling is so overwhelming. It's just incomprehensible," she said.
Brown explained that she often turns to her mother, Kelly, or her mother-in-law, Dorothea Hurley, for reassurance when she feels uncertain.
"They are doing something and you're like, 'Is that normal?' And I'll call my mom. She's just like my 911. If I can't call her, I call my mother-in-law. It's so nice to hear reassurance," she shared.
The actress also revealed that she and her husband live by a simple parenting motto: "Today was today and tomorrow is going to be tomorrow, and let's just sleep. You just take it day by day."
Brown reflected on how becoming a mother has reshaped her outlook, explaining that she wants her daughter to grow up in an environment where women are celebrated for their achievements. She said her goal is to pass on lessons that highlight the importance of girls supporting one another, women pursuing their ambitions, and building a world that sets high standards rather than unrealistic expectations. For her, it's about ensuring her daughter understands she should never settle for less than what she deserves.
Since becoming parents, the couple has emphasized protecting their daughter's story until she is old enough to share it herself. "As her parents, it's our job to protect her from that," Brown said.
