Britney Spears has resolved her DUI case after accepting a plea deal linked to her March 4 arrest in Ventura County, California.
The 44-year-old singer was not in court on Monday, May 4, as her lawyer Michael A. Goldstein appeared on her behalf and entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of "wet reckless driving."
The original DUI charge was dropped as part of the agreement.
Spears was arrested after being seen allegedly driving erratically near her home. According to reports, she was "in and out of lanes," speeding, and driving without a tail light before being stopped by police.
She was booked at around 3 a.m. and released later that day.
At the hearing, the court sentenced her to 12 months of probation and one day in jail, which was credited as time served. She was also fined $571 and ordered to complete a DUI education program.
As part of the ruling, Spears must also follow strict mental health and substance monitoring requirements, including weekly therapy sessions and twice-monthly appointments with a psychiatrist.
Her vehicle may be searched for alcohol or drugs, and she is required to submit to testing if stopped by law enforcement.
Her attorney said in a statement: "Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct."
He added that she has "taken significant steps to implement positive change" and expressed gratitude for the reduced charge.
Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said the outcome followed standard procedure for first-time offenders with no crash or injuries.
He added that a key part of the agreement was ensuring Spears continues with "her mental health and substance abuse regimen."
Following the arrest, Spears voluntarily entered a treatment facility. A representative said at the time, "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," adding that she would "take the right steps and comply with the law."
Sources also said her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, encouraged her to seek help, with one noting they "just want her to be healthy."
Under the plea deal, Spears will remain on probation while completing court-ordered treatment and monitoring requirements as the case is now officially closed.
