Mariah Carey is not losing sleep over being left out of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
Speaking to TMZ outside a hotel in New York City on April 20, the singer was asked whether she was disappointed about missing out on this year's list of inductees. Her response was simple and unbothered. She said she did not mind and was happy to see other artists receive the recognition instead. She even added that the honor could go to someone else and that it was a good thing.
The official list of 2026 inductees was announced earlier in April, featuring major names across several categories. In the Performer category, artists such as Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan were selected. Other honorees include Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti and Queen Latifah in the Early Influence category, alongside several industry figures recognized for musical excellence.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It will later air on ABC and stream on Disney+ in December.
To qualify for the Hall of Fame, artists must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before nomination. Carey, whose debut album came out in 1990, became eligible in 2015. She was among 17 nominees announced earlier this year, alongside artists like Pink and Shakira.
Despite missing this particular honor, Carey's career remains one of the most decorated in music. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020 and holds 19 number one hits, more than any solo artist in history. She has also won five Grammy Awards and remains one of the best selling musicians globally.
Earlier this year, she was named MusiCares Person of the Year. In a recent interview, Carey shared that she does not focus on labels or titles, explaining that she simply continues to work hard and stay committed to her craft.
