Growing up in the spotlight was not easy for Dan Levy. During a recent appearance on Q with Tom Power, the 42-year-old reflected on how his father Eugene Levy's fame affected him during his younger years.

Although Dan is now widely recognized for his own work, he admitted that being exposed to public attention as a child was deeply uncomfortable. When host Tom Power asked about his experience growing up with a famous parent, Dan responded candidly that he disliked it and that it strained his relationship with his father.

He explained that at the time, he was still figuring out his identity and dealing with personal insecurities. Being in public spaces where people frequently recognized his father only intensified those feelings. He described how the attention they received whenever they went out made him uneasy, especially as someone who was not yet comfortable with himself. As a result, he began distancing himself from being seen in public with Eugene, even though it was not meant to hurt him.

Looking back, Dan acknowledged that his father understandably took that distance personally. However, he clarified that his actions were more about self-preservation than rejection. He needed space to feel at ease in a world where he already felt uncertain. Over time, the two had conversations that helped bring clarity to the situation, allowing Eugene to better understand the reasons behind his son's behavior.

Dan also admitted that, as a child, he lacked the language to explain why he felt the way he did. Situations like attending baseball games or going to restaurants felt overwhelming due to the constant attention. Despite this discomfort, he still had a desire to perform, even if public visibility was difficult for him at the time.

In later years, their relationship evolved significantly. The father-son duo went on to co-create and star in the hit series Schitt's Creek, which aired from 2015 to 2020 and achieved major success, including a record-breaking number of Emmy wins in its final season. Eugene publicly expressed pride in working alongside his children, including Dan and his daughter Sarah.

The pair have since continued to collaborate, even co-hosting the 2024 Emmy Awards, becoming the first father and son to do so. Dan noted that sharing such experiences with his father made high-pressure moments more manageable, thanks to their strong connection and mutual support.

Today, Dan's latest project, Big Mistakes, is available for streaming on Netflix.
