Pop star Britney Spears has checked into a treatment facility, just over a month after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A representative for the 44-year-old singer confirmed that she voluntarily entered the facility in April, following the March incident in California. Authorities said the arrest came after reports of a vehicle being driven erratically along U.S. 101 in Ventura County. Spears was subjected to field sobriety tests before being taken into custody and later released the same day.

At the time, her representative described the situation as "completely inexcusable," adding that Spears would take responsibility moving forward. "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," the statement read. "Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life."

The statement continued: "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Following the arrest, Spears received support from those close to her, particularly her family. Her sons were expected to spend time with her, while her loved ones worked on putting together a plan aimed at improving her overall well-being. Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

Her ex-husband Sam Asghari also expressed his support, noting that although they have not been in contact, he wishes her success in her recovery and emphasised the importance of privacy during this time.

The case has since been forwarded to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, with a decision on potential charges expected ahead of a scheduled court appearance on May 4.

Spears, who has largely stepped away from music in recent years, has not toured in nearly eight years and has not released an album in almost a decade. In 2021, she regained control over her personal and financial decisions after the end of her nearly 14-year conservatorship. She later released her memoir, The Woman in Me.
