Eugene Mirman is recuperating from a near-death encounter. After being dragged from the flaming wreckage of a car accident in New Hampshire on March 31, the Bob's Burgers star, who has played Eugene Belcher in more than 300 episodes of the cherished cartoon comedy, was admitted to the hospital.
In a statement to Variety on April 1, Mirman's representative said, "Eugene was in a very scary car accident." He wishes to express his gratitude to the hospital staff, state police, first responders, and onlookers who helped save his life. He is appreciative of his recovery.
"At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries," the statement continued.
According to a New Hampshire State Police press release, the crash occurred around 11:55 a.m. when Mirman, 51, drove a 2026 Lucid Gravity into the Bedford Toll Plaza. Authorities claimed 911 callers reported that the car had taken fire and that "someone in the vehicle appeared to be trapped."
As authorities arrived at the scene, a veteran state trooper attached to New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte's security detail spotted the incident and stepped into action, rescuing Mirman from the burning car via a window, according to police.
According to officials, the voice actor was the only occupant of the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital with significant injuries. Police have decided not to identify Mirman's savior by name because of the nature of their position."
The cause of the crash has not been disclosed. There have been no charges filed at this time, but authorities have stated that the collision is still being investigated.
Still, the community praised the good Samaritan, with NHSP Colonel Mark B. Hall sharing in a statement, “Certainly, their actions were heroic in what they did."
"Without hesitation," he added, "they put themselves in danger to help someone in need."
Ayotte also expressed her appreciation. "I want to thank the trooper on my security detail and the onlookers who came forward to help at the scene of the incident for their brave lifesaving efforts today," she tweeted on X (previously Twitter) on March 31. She and her husband, Joseph Daley, "are praying for the full recovery of the driver who was injured today."
In an April 1 post, Ayotte said, "It's an example of the great work first responders do every day to keep New Hampshire safe, and how Granite Staters always step up to help someone in need."
