Harrison Ford fought back tears as he accepted the Life Achievement Award at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1.
The 83-year-old icon was presented with the evening's top honor by close friend Woody Harrelson, who praised Ford's enduring talent and unmistakable screen presence. Taking the stage to a standing ovation, Ford balanced gratitude with wit as he looked back on more than five decades in Hollywood.
"I feel incredibly grateful for this kind attention, but to be clear, I'm also quite humbled," he began, prompting warm applause from the crowd of fellow performers. Gesturing to the nominees in the room, he quipped, "Many of you are here because you're nominated for your amazing work. I'm here to receive a prize for being alive."
Despite the joke, the moment quickly turned emotional. Ford described himself as "indeed a lucky guy," reflecting on a career that began with small roles before soaring to global fame. He credited collaborators including George Lucas and Steven Spielberg for helping shape his path in the industry.
The actor paused, visibly moved, as he thanked his family, especially his wife, Calista Flockhart. Calling her his "extraordinary, beautiful wife," he said she has given him "love and courage through all of it." Cameras captured Flockhart in the audience, watching proudly as tears welled in her eyes.
Ford also reflected on discovering his passion for storytelling in college, recalling how a group of self-described "misfits and geeks" ultimately became his community. "Sometimes we make entertainment, sometimes we make art," he said. "If we're really fortunate, we get to make a living doing both."
As he concluded, Ford emphasized the responsibility that comes with longevity in the business, to support others and "keep the door open" for the next generation. "I don't take any of it for granted," he said, voice breaking once more.
