Britney Spears has officially parted ways with her music catalog.
The 44-year-old pop superstar sold the rights to her body of work to independent music publisher Primary Wave on Dec. 30, according to multiple reports. Financial details of the agreement have not been publicly confirmed, though estimates suggest the deal could be worth around $200 million.
The sale includes some of Spears' most recognizable songs, such as "...Baby One More Time," "Oops!... I Did It Again," "Toxic," "Gimme More," "Circus" and "Womanizer." Spanning nine studio albums released between 1999 and 2016, her catalog helped define modern pop music and has contributed to more than 150 million records sold worldwide.
Representatives for Spears and Primary Wave have not publicly commented on the transaction.
Primary Wave is known for acquiring and managing the catalogs of legendary artists. The company's portfolio includes music associated with Prince, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley and the Notorious B.I.G., among others. Founded two decades ago by music executive Lawrence Mestel, the publisher has become a major force in music rights ownership.
Spears' decision follows a broader industry trend of high-profile artists selling their catalogs in recent years. Bruce Springsteen, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and Shakira are among the stars who have struck sizable publishing deals.
The news comes after several transformative years for Spears. In 2021, she was released from a 13-year conservatorship that had controlled her personal and financial affairs. She later detailed her experience in her 2023 memoir, The Woman in Me.
In early 2024, Spears said she did not plan to return to the music industry. Her most recent release was a 2022 duet with Elton John.
