Princess Kate has marked World Cancer Day with a deeply personal message reflecting on her own journey and offering support to those affected by the disease.
World Cancer Day is observed each year on Feb. 4, and the Princess of Wales, 44, shared a new video on social media to commemorate the occasion. The short clip features moments from her visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital's Chelsea site in January 2025, where she met with patients, staff, and caregivers.
That visit carried special significance, as it was later confirmed that Princess Kate had received treatment at The Royal Marsden during her cancer journey. She shared later that same day that she was officially in remission.
In a voiceover accompanying the video posted to Instagram, the Princess of Wales expressed her solidarity with others facing similar experiences. "On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment or finding their way through recovery," she said. She added that cancer affects not only patients, but also families, friends, and caregivers who provide constant support.
Reflecting on her own experience, Princess Kate acknowledged the emotional and physical challenges that come with the process. "As anyone who has experienced this journey will know, it's not linear," she said. "There are moments of fear and exhaustion. But also moments of strength, kindness, and profound connection."
She concluded her message by emphasizing compassion and hope, saying the day serves as a reminder of the importance of care, understanding, and reassurance for those navigating cancer. "Please know you are not alone," she said.
Princess Kate first revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for cancer, stepping back from public duties to focus on her health. In September 2024, she announced that she had completed chemotherapy, and in January 2025 she confirmed she was in remission following her visit to The Royal Marsden.
That same day, it was also announced that she and Prince William had become Joint Patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, strengthening their connection to the world renowned cancer center.
In recent months, the Princess of Wales has spoken candidly about the challenges that follow treatment. During a visit to Colchester Hospital in July, she described the period after chemotherapy as particularly difficult.
"You put on a sort of brave face through treatment," she said at the time. "Then treatment's done and you think you can get back to normal, but actually the phase afterwards is really difficult."
She explained that adjusting to life after treatment takes time and guidance, noting that patients may no longer be under constant clinical care yet still struggle to regain normal routines. Finding a new normal, she said, can feel overwhelming.
"It's a roller coaster," Princess Kate reflected. "The reality is you go through hard times."
