Colleen Hoover has shared a personal update about her health, revealing that she has been undergoing cancer treatment and is close to completing radiation therapy. The best-selling author disclosed the news in a social media post on Sunday, January 12.
"Second to last day of radiation!" Hoover, 46, wrote over a photo of herself wearing a hospital gown on her Instagram Stories. She added, "I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology, but they've been great. Hope you never need them, but highly recommend them."
Hoover has not publicly specified the type of cancer she has been diagnosed with, but she has shared several updates about her condition over the past few months. In a Facebook post dated January 9, she revealed that genetic testing ruled out hereditary factors. "I got results back today from the geneticist that say my cancer did not come from family genes," she wrote. "It also didn't come from the two main causes of the cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones."
She went on to explain that doctors believe environmental and lifestyle factors may have contributed. "This means it was more than likely environmental/lifestyle, which is lack of exercise, poor diet and stress," Hoover added, before injecting humor into the update. "I'm happy and grateful to be alive but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating. I hate when science is right."
Hoover first hinted at her health struggles in October 2025, when she revealed that she would be unable to attend promotional events for the film adaptation of her novel Regretting You due to an unavoidable surgery. At the time, she shared that the procedure would prevent her from moderating a scheduled book signing and from attending the film's premiere or related events, noting that while she was disappointed to miss the activities, she would be unable to travel for a period of time.
In a later post, Hoover explained that she had delayed seeking medical attention while spending much of 2025 in Canada working on the adaptation of her novel Reminders of Him. "When I returned home, I found out I had cancer," she wrote, adding that the cancer was removed through surgery and followed by radiation treatment.
Although the surgery forced her to step back from several major professional moments, Hoover expressed appreciation for the support behind the project, saying she was disappointed to miss the film's release and premiere but deeply thankful to the cast and crew who brought the story to life.
Hoover, whose novels have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, has multiple screen adaptations slated for release this year, including Reminders of Him and Verity, as she continues treatment and shares updates with her readers.
