Emma Stone has firmly shut down speculation that she will portray Miss Piggy in an upcoming film she is producing alongside Jennifer Lawrence.

In an interview with W Magazine published on Tuesday, Jan. 6, the 37-year-old actress addressed the rumor directly and made it clear that she would never attempt to replace the iconic Muppet. Stone jokingly called the idea an insult to Miss Piggy, praising the character as a true star in her own right. She added that neither she nor Lawrence could compare to the legendary presence of the beloved Muppet.

Stone emphasized that Miss Piggy would always play herself, adding that the character would likely walk out in protest if anyone suggested otherwise. Her comments were delivered with humor, but they left no doubt that the rumor had no basis in reality.

The speculation began in November 2025, when Lawrence announced plans for a Miss Piggy film during an appearance on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers' Las Culturistas podcast. At the time, Lawrence revealed that she and Stone were producing the project and that playwright Cole Escola was writing the script. While the announcement generated excitement, it also sparked confusion about whether the actresses would portray characters within the film.

Lawrence later hinted that she and Stone might appear onscreen, saying she believed they would eventually star together. She joked that it was long overdue for the two friends to collaborate in a movie, given their close relationship and shared history in Hollywood. The project marks their first official collaboration as producers.

Stone's interview with W Magazine coincided with the release of her 2025 film Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. Her performance in the movie earned her a Golden Globe nomination, continuing a successful streak with the filmmaker. In 2024, Stone received nominations for her roles in The Curse and Poor Things, ultimately winning for the latter.

During the interview, Stone also reflected on her attachment to Bella Baxter, her character in Poor Things. She admitted that she still misses the role and would gladly return to it if given the chance. Stone joked that even Lanthimos has teased her about her lingering affection for the character, encouraging her to move on.

Despite her playful nostalgia, Stone remains focused on new creative ventures, including the highly anticipated Miss Piggy project, which she insists will honor the character's iconic legacy without attempting to replace her unmistakable presence.
