Jennifer Lopez poked fun at her romantic history while offering a thoughtful reflection on personal growth during the opening night of her Las Vegas residency, subtly referencing her divorce from Ben Affleck.
The singer and actress, 56, kicked off her Up All Night concert series at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Tuesday, December 30. Speaking to the crowd, Lopez reflected on how much her life has changed since her last Las Vegas residency nearly a decade ago at Planet Hollywood's Zappos Theater.
"It's such a huge honor to be asked back," she told fans. "Do you know it's been 10 years since my last residency here. Almost exactly 10 years. It was in January. That time went by in a blink, didn't it?"
She then added with a laugh, "And in that time, I've only been married twice," prompting laughter from the audience. Lopez quickly corrected herself, joking, "That's not true. It was only once. It felt like twice," drawing even louder reactions.
Continuing the lighthearted moment, she reassured the crowd that she was joking and that the chapter was closed, adding playful choreography and sound effects for comedic flair. She then shifted to a more reflective tone, saying, "It's all good. The good news is that I'm learning and I'm growing, and we're in our happy era. I'm in my happy era."
Lopez first dated Affleck from 2002 to 2004 after meeting on the set of Gigli. The pair reunited in 2021 and married in July 2022. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, coinciding with the anniversary of their wedding celebration in Georgia.
In a September interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, Lopez described the experience as transformative, calling the wisdom she gained "the best thing that ever happened to me" because it helped her grow in necessary ways.
Despite the split, the former couple has remained on friendly terms. They reunited publicly at the October premiere of Kiss of the Spider Woman, a film Affleck produced, and were later seen shopping together in Los Angeles with his son Samuel.
During the show, Lopez also reflected on earlier heartbreak, including her divorce from Marc Anthony. She shared a story from a difficult period when she was a newly single mother to twins, recalling advice from late author Louise Hay. Hay encouraged her to keep dancing through life's challenges, a message Lopez passed on to the audience as a reminder to keep moving forward no matter what.
