Meghan Trainor is opening a new chapter in both her music and personal life, blending vulnerability, healing and motherhood on her upcoming album Toy with Me, set for release in April. The Grammy-winning singer recently spoke with Extra about her new single, "Still Don't Care," and revealed that her two sons will make a special appearance on the record.
The track was written following significant lifestyle changes that led to a 60-pound weight loss, an experience Trainor says came with unexpected online backlash. While she shared that she now feels stronger and healthier, she admitted the reaction from strangers was painful. "I am the healthiest I've ever been and the most fit," she said, explaining that the process involved learning "what food was healthy."
Despite trying to brush off the criticism, Trainor said it took an emotional toll. She described seeing comments that questioned her appearance and identity, adding, "Crazy, like, mean. I was like, 'This doesn't affect me.' Yes, it did. I cried." The singer later worked through those feelings in therapy, where she was encouraged to take back control from outside voices.
Trainor explained that songwriting became an outlet for processing those experiences. "When I write songs about my feelings and my emotions and being vulnerable, I noticed it helps a lot of fans out there," she shared. She also revealed that lyrics for "Still Don't Care" were drawn directly from real comments she has received, saying, "I wrote down what people have said to me online or in person."
Alongside the deeply personal themes, Toy with Me also includes a tender family moment. Trainor revealed that her sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, whom she shares with husband Daryl Sabara, appear at the end of a track titled "Little One." She described the song as a lullaby dedicated to them and shared that the moment closes with her children telling her, "I love you, Mama."
Trainor has previously spoken about how emotional milestones with her children can be, including watching Riley start school and attend camp for the first time. While those moments were difficult, she has continued to celebrate her sons openly, often sharing glimpses of family life on social media.
