Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are officially returning to the world of Panem, thrilling fans who have long hoped to see the iconic duo reunited on screen. The actors, best known for their portrayals of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, will reprise their roles in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming prequel set to hit theaters in November 2026.

Multiple U.S. outlets report that Lawrence, now 35, and Hutcherson, 33, will appear in a flash-forward sequence that mirrors the epilogue in Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel. In the book, Katniss and Peeta visit Haymitch Abernathy after the Capitol revolution, reflecting on the trauma of war, the rebuilding of their lives, and the painful history Haymitch finally reveals. Though brief, the moment remains one of the franchise's most emotionally charged scenes, and fans are eager to see it adapted.

Both stars had previously hinted they would gladly return. Lawrence once said she'd "totally" come back as Katniss, while Hutcherson recently told Variety he'd show up "in a heartbeat." Their reunion sent Hunger Games fans into a frenzy on social media. One fan wrote, "For non-Hunger Games fans this is like Rihanna returning to music," while another joked, "It's basically Jesus returning to Earth."

Still, some longtime readers wished the cameo had been kept secret, arguing it could have delivered a powerful surprise moment in the cinema.

The prequel itself shifts focus to a young Haymitch Abernathy during the brutal 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Joseph Zada leads the cast as the teenage Haymitch, joined by Glenn Close, McKenna Grace, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Billy Porter, and Whitney Peak. Although Woody Harrelson has not confirmed an on-screen return, his voice is heard in a teaser trailer declaring, "I think these games are gonna be different."

Sunrise on the Reaping arrives at a time when the franchise remains a global cultural force. Suzanne Collins' latest book sold more than 1.5 million copies in its release week, marking the strongest debut of her career. With the film series already earning $3.3 billion worldwide, the return of Katniss and Peeta adds fresh momentum to a universe that continues to captivate a new generation of fans.
