Eric Dane is preparing to share his complete life story, covering the spectrum from his iconic television roles to his ongoing battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The upcoming book, titled Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments, is scheduled for a 2026 release through Maria Shriver's publishing imprint, The Open Field, a division of Penguin Random House.

The memoir promises an intimate look at the 53-year-old actor's experiences, exploring his rise to fame, his journey into fatherhood, and the profound perspective shift following his diagnosis. In a heartfelt statement regarding the project, Dane shared that his daily reality, waking up to the immediate physical challenges of his illness, is the primary driving force behind the book.

He expressed a deep desire to document the pivotal "beautiful days" alongside the difficult ones, hoping that his story might help others find meaning in their own lives and understand what it truly means to live with heart.

Audiences know Dane best for his long-standing tenure as the charming Dr. Mark Sloan, affectionately known as "McSteamy," on Grey's Anatomy, a role he inhabited from 2006 to 2012. More recently, he captivated a new generation of viewers as the complex Cal Jacobs on HBO's hit series Euphoria. He also holds notable film credits, including Marley & Me and X-Men: The Last Stand.

Despite his diagnosis, which he publicly announced in April, he has expressed a determination to continue working. The progressive neurodegenerative disease, which impacts motor neurons and eventually affects the ability to move, speak, and breathe, has presented significant hurdles. Dane revealed that the condition caused him to miss a highly anticipated Grey's Anatomy reunion at the Emmys in October after a fall in his kitchen resulted in a head injury.

Maria Shriver described the upcoming memoir as a courageous effort. She emphasized that the project is not only a legacy for Dane's daughters but also a vital tool for raising awareness. Shriver noted that the book will offer readers a compassionate window into the realities of ALS, helping the public understand the nuances of the condition and how to support those navigating similar neurological challenges.
