During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 4, Miley Cyrus explained that she's lived with an unusual, long-standing fear of paper, something she jokingly tied to her decision to say yes when Morando proposed.

Cyrus told Kimmel she has struggled with the aversion since childhood and that it becomes especially overwhelming during the holidays. "Christmas, I'm known as a little bit of a Grinch because I have a qualm with Christmas. I hate paper," she said, noting that dry hands on paper are the worst trigger. Talking about it caused her to gag several times, and she admitted the fear has become a "phobia."

The issue affects her daily routine, especially when packages arrive. Cyrus joked that Morando has taken over anything involving cardboard. "Someone gets an Amazon box, I'm sick," she said. "That's why I got engaged because I just make my fiancé open all the packages outside." When Kimmel mentioned the traditional paper gift for a first wedding anniversary, Cyrus laughed, responding, "Uh nuh, not here."

People recently confirmed her engagement to the musician, who proposed during a trip to Asia. Cyrus told Good Morning America that she was completely caught off guard and that Morando "did good" with the ring. The proposal came after four years together — a period she described as transformative. "It's very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I've had in those four years ... and that really, a lot of that is because I have a great partner," she said.

Her paper sensitivity extends far beyond packages. Cyrus said she avoids letters, newspapers, and even books unless they're on a Kindle. Smooth or waxed surfaces are easier for her to tolerate, something she remembered from her previous marriage. "From the last marriage, I think I remember the paper is waxed," she told Kimmel.

Although she joked about the "Black Friday deal" timing of her engagement ring, Cyrus made clear she's thrilled about this next chapter. A source told PEOPLE she is "thrilled" and living "exactly the life she wanted," with Morando's low-key nature influencing how she approaches fame.
