Prince Harry stunned viewers on Wednesday night after unexpectedly popping up during Stephen Colbert's monologue on The Late Show, delivering a series of playful jabs, including one aimed squarely at President Donald Trump. The Duke of Sussex appeared as part of a scripted Christmas sketch, playing a fictional version of himself trying to land a role as a Hallmark-style "Christmas prince."
Harry wandered onto the stage pretending to be lost, insisting he was searching for an audition for Gingerbread Christmas Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska. When Colbert questioned why a real-life royal would want to star in such films, Harry fired back that Americans are "obsessed with Christmas movies" and "even more obsessed with royalty."
Colbert denied the claim, giving Harry his cue for the night's sharpest line: "Really? I hear you elected a king." The studio erupted with groans and scattered boos, while Colbert acknowledged the quip with, "He's got a point.
Harry continued leaning into the absurdity of the fake audition sequence, rattling off what he'd be willing to do for the part. "I'll record a self-tape, fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House, all the things you people in TV do," he teased, in a clear reference to CBS's recent settlement involving Trump. When Colbert insisted he was uninvolved, Harry shot back: "Maybe that's why you're canceled."
The sketch then shifted into a full holiday production, complete with decked-out trees and sleigh bells, as Harry encouraged Colbert to "just believe." By the end, Colbert ceremoniously declared Harry the "official Late Show prince of Christmas," earning cheers from the audience.
This surprise appearance marks Harry's second time on The Late Show, following his 2023 interview promoting Spare, which broke the show's two-year ratings record. The moment also landed amid personal turbulence: hours earlier, reports surfaced that Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, had undergone emergency surgery in the Philippines and was in intensive care.
Despite the surrounding headlines, Harry embraced the comedic bit fully, blending self-awareness, political edge, and holiday charm in a cameo that instantly set social media buzzing.
