Jessie J has returned to music with a bold new track that appears to take aim at her ex-boyfriend, Channing Tatum.
The 37-year-old singer, known for hits like Price Tag and Bang Bang, is set to release her upcoming album, Don't Tease Me With A Good Time, this Friday, marking her first major project since battling breast cancer.
Jessie underwent a mastectomy in June and later revealed she would need further surgery, but she has channeled her experiences into creating music that is both personal and unapologetic.
According to reports, one track in particular, Threw It Away, contains pointed lyrics that fans believe target the Magic Mike star, whom she dated from 2018 to 2020.
In the song, Jessie sings: "I put my heart out on the table, that's when it got uncomfortable. But oh, that karma is gonna come one day, 'cause I gave you my love and you threw it away." She continues with: "Don't you dare rewrite the story. I'm the beauty, you're the beast," leaving little doubt about who inspired the lyrics.
At a recent listening event in West London, Jessie did not mention Channing by name but provided fans with a clear hint. "This next song I wrote in 2020 with Ryan Tedder, and you can figure out who I was dating," she said, prompting immediate speculation among attendees.
Earlier this month, Jessie shared a heartfelt reflection on her cancer journey at the Music Industry Trust Awards. She spoke about how the diagnosis changed her outlook on life and music, making her appreciate her ability to connect with fans through her art.
"Life throws challenges at you, and you have to face them head-on," she said. "This year has changed my whole world, but it's also made me stronger and more determined."
Now, with her new album ready to drop, Jessie J is stepping back into the spotlight with confidence, using her music to assert herself and deliver a message that is both powerful and personal.
