Eva Green has officially joined Netflix's hit series Wednesday, stepping into the long-teased role of Aunt Ophelia for Season 3. The announcement ends nearly a year of intense fan theories sparked by the Season 2 finale, which revealed only the back of Ophelia's head in a final, eerie cliffhanger.

First hinted at through Wednesday Addams' visions, Ophelia Frump is the troubled sister of Morticia Addams, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. Her presence has loomed large over the story despite never being fully seen. Season 2 revealed fragments of her past: Ophelia was committed to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital by her mother, Hester Frump—portrayed by Joanna Lumley—after pushing her psychic abilities far beyond safe limits. She later escaped, disappearing from the family's knowledge.

The finale deepened the mystery when Morticia entrusted Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) with Ophelia's journal. In it, Wednesday saw a vision of a blond woman wearing a flower crown, a stark contrast to her mother's gothic aesthetic. Moments later, viewers glimpsed Hester descending into her mansion's basement, where Ophelia—still shown only from behind—sat in a cell, wearing a red dress and writing "Wednesday must die" on the wall in her own blood.

The casting of Green puts to rest popular theories, including speculation that Lady Gaga might secretly be portraying Ophelia following her Season 2 appearance. Green, known for roles in Casino Royale, Penny Dreadful, and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, said she was "thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday" and looked forward to adding her "own touch of cuckoo-ness" to the Addams family.

Wednesday remains one of Netflix's most successful English-language series, with Season 1 still holding the No. 1 spot on the global TV chart and Season 2 earning the fourth-highest viewership in platform history. Season 3 marks the first major casting addition since the renewal, which came ahead of the Season 2 premiere.

Returning cast members include Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Isaac Ordonez, Billie Piper, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Victor Dorobantu, Evie Templeton, Luis Guzmán, Joanna Lumley, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Fred Armisen. The series is led by creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Tim Burton continuing as executive producer and director.
