Nicole Kidman has hinted at the emotional weight she's been carrying since the end of her 19-year marriage to Keith Urban, offering a rare, vulnerable glimpse into her life after their split. Speaking with Ariana Grande for a new Interview Magazine profile published Monday, the 58-year-old actress responded quietly when Grande asked how she was doing. "I'm hanging in there," Kidman said — a short, honest answer that immediately set the tone for the rest of their exchange.

Kidman went on to say she felt "safe" and "protected" while working on the sequel to Practical Magic this past summer, a period that coincided with the unraveling of her marriage. The film, which reunites her with Sandra Bullock, seemed to serve as a kind of emotional refuge. Surrounded by what she described as a deeply supportive cast — including Bullock, Joey King, and Maisie Williams — Kidman said the set became a place where she felt genuinely held. "It was just very, very safe," she explained, noting that filmmaking can often be draining, but this experience was different.

Revisiting the beloved 1998 classic alongside Bullock also felt surreal for Kidman, who said it was "insane" that they were able to revive the story decades later at a major studio. The project's momentum offered a bright spot amid private turmoil that would soon spill into public view.

A source confirmed in September that Kidman and Urban had quietly separated after nearly two decades together. While the split was described as a long time coming, the source also noted that Kidman "did not want the separation and was trying to save things." The couple had reportedly been living apart since early summer, with Kidman caring for their daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

Kidman filed for divorce on September 30, shortly before rumors surfaced about Urban's alleged connection to his younger guitarist, Maggie Baugh. For now, insiders say Kidman's focus is on stability for her daughters. "The last thing Nicole wanted was a broken family," a source said, adding that she's channeling her energy into keeping home life steady, loving, and grounded as a new chapter begins.
