The new hairstyle—or lack thereof—of Timothée Chalamet is no longer entirely unknown.

In fact, the 29-year-old is now prepared for the big reveal after trading in his luscious brown curls for a buzzcut over the summer: on October 7, he made his shaved head public in a Marty Supreme Instagram video.

Timothée also gave fans an in-person look when he was spotted sporting the new appearance while out and about in New York City. He was wearing loose jeans, brown boots, a denim baseball hat, and a navy half-zip sweatshirt, which only gave a glimpse of his makeover. While posing for pictures at the New York Film Festival on October 6, the Dune actor also wore a different black baseball hat to hide his bald head.

While keeping his new hairstyle a secret for months, he has experimented with different headpieces. In July, he covered his head with a green bandana while on vacation in Saint-Tropez with girlfriend Kylie Jenner. The following month, he went to a Premier League game in London wearing a camouflage cap with the hood of his black sweatshirt pulled over the top.

Since Timothée is accustomed to changing his appearance for leading roles, it's plausible that the Oscar nominee shaved his head for the part, especially since Dune: Part Three was scheduled to start filming in July, according to Variety.

In January, he told NPR's All Things Considered, "I did all the work, like you just described, physically and behavior-wise," about his transformation to play Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. "I also put on 20 pounds because, believe it or not, I was thinner than the guy.”

But getting to that point wasn't easy, as earlier in his career, he was passed over rather than being given the chance for roles due to his leaner frame.

He mentioned The Maze Runner and Divergent as movies for which he was not selected in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2024, saying, "I would always get the same feedback." "Oh, your physique isn't appropriate."

But the rejection gave him a fresh start that helped his career take off: independent film.

"I went to what I thought was a more humble door," he clarified, "but was actually explosive for me."
