Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is facing a felony battery charge following a violent altercation in Indianapolis that left him hospitalized with stab wounds. Authorities said the 38-year-old could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning in an alley near the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, where Sanchez allegedly confronted a 69-year-old truck driver identified in court documents only as "P.T." According to police, Sanchez appeared intoxicated and attempted to enter the driver's truck while claiming that the hotel manager had ordered the driver not to collect used cooking oil.

P.T. told detectives he believed Sanchez was "trying to kill me," prompting him to use pepper spray. When Sanchez continued to advance, P.T. said he "stabbed Mr. Sanchez two or three times." Surveillance footage reportedly shows the former quarterback grabbing the man and "throwing him towards the wall of the Westin." Witnesses told police both men were filming each other during the confrontation.

Sanchez later told investigators "all he could remember was grabbing for a window" and did not recall who stabbed him or where the incident happened. He sustained stab wounds to his upper torso, while P.T. suffered severe cuts to his face. "We're lucky that no one's dead right now as a result of this incident that involved a knife," Indianapolis police chief Chris Bailey said.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears described the encounter as a dispute that "literally" started "over a parking space," calling the 69-year-old's injuries "very severe." He added that the victim's age could be treated as an aggravating factor in sentencing. "You have the allegations of a 38-year-old man becoming involved in an altercation with a 69-year-old man who sustained significant, very severe injuries," Mears said.

Sanchez had traveled to Indianapolis to cover Sunday's NFL game between the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders. He was replaced in the broadcast booth by fellow analyst Brady Quinn. During the pregame show, host Curt Menefee told viewers, "We are all still trying to wrap our heads around it ... our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, his family and all those involved."

Sanchez joined Fox Sports in 2021 after a decade-long NFL career with teams including the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys.
