Tom Holland is celebrating a milestone in his personal life as he passes three and a half years of sobriety. The Spider-Man actor, 29, first stepped away from alcohol in January 2022 and says the journey has reshaped him in lasting ways.

"It feels amazing. A little bit like a brand-new identity, almost," Holland said in a recent interview. What began as a simple challenge during Dry January eventually extended into a permanent lifestyle change after he realized how much drinking had influenced his life.

Holland admitted he often went too far when he drank. "My problem was that I would have one drink and be fine, and then I would just go too far," he explained. At the time, Friday nights were spent partying, leaving his Saturdays wasted. "Every Friday after work was a write-off: Let's get drunk and have a good time. I didn't have bad experiences, but I would drink enough so that I would ruin my next day."

Support and advice played a big role in his transition. Holland recalled guidance from his lawyer: "You'll never wake up the morning after a night out and wish you had a drink." He also described an "eye-opening moment" when he asked his younger brother to drive him home from a party so he could keep drinking. "It's really helpful when the people closest to you start going, 'Are you sure?'" he said.

His sobriety was especially tested in 2022 while filming the Apple TV+ drama The Crowded Room. "There was quite a lot of animosity on that set. It was not a very harmonious place, and there was a lot of arguing and butting heads. I thought, 'If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it's gonna get worse, right?'" Holland shared. He decided against rehab, instead leaning on family, friends, colleagues, and others who had also embraced sobriety.

Since then, Holland has launched his own non-alcoholic beer company, Bero, which he describes as "an ever-changing, ever-growing process." He said, "I'm really proud of it. Every day we're making big steps in the right direction, and we're growing every day—thinking of new ways to innovate and coming up with new ideas for products."

Looking back, Holland calls sobriety "the best thing I've ever done." He explained, "I could sleep better. I could handle problems better. I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier, I felt fitter."

The actor is currently filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slated for release on July 31, 2026.
