Charlie Sheen is opening up about the pivotal moment that led to his first trip to rehab, a moment made possible by Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood.

In his newly released Netflix docuseries, aka Charlie Sheen, the 60-year-old actor reveals that his family staged a surprise intervention on August 3, 1990, cleverly disguised as a birthday party for his father, Martin Sheen. Expecting balloons and cake, Charlie instead walked into a circle of family and friends ready to confront him about his escalating drug and alcohol use.

"As I come around the corner, I see the living room has this really expertly organized circle of people," Sheen recalls. Among the attendees were his siblings Emilio, Ramon, and Renée, his parents, actor Rob Lowe, his seventh-grade history teacher, and even his yoga instructor.

Initially, Sheen considered faking agreement just to escape. "I was hatching a plan to get away," he admits in the series. But then his father handed him a phone, saying someone wanted to speak with him.

On the other end of the line was Clint Eastwood, Sheen's co-star in the 1990 film The Rookie. The Oscar winner didn't mince words. "You've got to get the train back on the tracks, kid," Eastwood told him in his iconic gravelly voice. "You're worth saving."

Sheen describes the moment as "really powerful." After the call, he handed the phone back to his father and said, "All right, let's go," finally agreeing to seek treatment.

While Eastwood did not appear in the documentary, his role was crucial in shifting Sheen's mindset. The actor later admitted that, despite entering rehab, his struggles with addiction continued for years. It wasn't until 2017, after a sobering moment with his daughter Sami, that Sheen committed fully to a life of sobriety.

The documentary coincides with the release of Sheen's memoir, The Book of Sheen, in which he shares candid stories of his past, including wild nights with Nicolas Cage and a group of friends he dubbed "J-5."

Now seven years sober, Sheen reflects on his journey with gratitude. "Clint's words still echo," he says. "That phone call changed everything.".
