Kate McKinnon is taking a humorous approach to oral health. The former Saturday Night Live star has been identified as having geographic tongue, a benign inflammatory disorder that affects the muscular organ's surface.
In an interview that was published on September 6, she said, "I took a photo of my tongue and sent it to an actor friend of mine." "We both suffer from the same illness. We refer to it as geographic tongue. The term "geographic tongue" comes from the fact that your tongue sheds in patches and resembles an atlas.
"It’s gross," the 41-year-old continued. "We brag about how geographic we are on any given day."
According to the Cleveland Clinic, people who have fewer papillae—fine, hair-like sensory structures—on their tongues are more likely to have geographic tongue. The patches appear and disappear, and the condition is benign.
Kate is not the only famous person impacted by geographic tongue, even though she did not name her friend who has the same condition as her. Sadie Robertson from Duck Dynasty has actually been diagnosed with the same condition.
"I have geographic tongue—yes, it’s a thing," the 28-year-old captioned a picture of herself pulling a goofy face on Instagram in 2020. "And yes, that’s why my tongue looks weird."
In addition, singer Maura Nava verified her own diagnosis in a comment under Sadie's post titled "Geographic tongue team."
Additionally, Kate has had more time to concentrate on her own health and well-being since leaving SNL in 2022. Following her 10-year run on the NBC sketch comedy show, she said on Vulture's Good Ones podcast, "I feel really healthy and really good."
The Barbie actress went on to say, "I'm wearing my retainer again." "I’m taking vitamins for the first time."
Nevertheless, Kate occasionally misses her previous co-stars.
"It's really a family: the cast, the crew, the writers, the producers," she said about the 2022 Emmys. "My favorite people in the world."
