Kate Middleton is back to royal duties, and showing off a stunning new look. The Princess of Wales, 43, stepped out with noticeably blonde locks on Thursday, September 4, as she joined Prince William, also 43, to tour the newly renovated gardens at London's Natural History Museum. The engagement marked the couple's first official outing following their summer break.
Kate looked effortlessly chic with her hair worn loose in her signature blowout, complementing a gray blazer, crisp white blouse, and tailored black trousers. William opted for a classic dark suit with a light blue shirt.
Over the summer, royal watchers began speculating about a possible hair transformation after Kate was photographed with subtly lighter strands at Wimbledon in July. The buzz intensified on August 24, when she attended a church service near Balmoral Castle in Scotland with William and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, revealing hair that appeared even lighter and sun-kissed.
Celebrity hairstylist Sarah Gadsdon told the Daily Mail that Kate's honey blonde shade may have been inspired by her Greek holiday, explaining, "Sea air, sunshine, and saltwater naturally lifted her hair to a softer tone, creating the perfect base for her salon refresh." Gadsdon also suggested the lighter hue could camouflage grays in a more subtle, low-maintenance way.
Fellow stylist Jennifer Korab praised the transformation, calling it "sophisticated, polished, and perfectly on-trend," thanks to its blended brunette and blonde tones that add brightness and dimension.
Kate's new look comes after a year of personal milestones. The royal mom of three revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, later sharing in January that she was in remission after completing treatment. During Thursday's outing, Kate appeared healthy and upbeat, even laughing as she and William got caught in the rain while meeting local schoolchildren participating in nature programs.
The day also carried special meaning, as Kate serves as royal patron of the Natural History Museum and has long advocated for outdoor learning and conservation.
The couple's appearance came just one day after their children returned to school, officially signaling the end of their family's quiet summer together, and ushering in a new season of royal engagements.
