The loss of one of their own is being mourned by the comedy community. According to the Southaven Police Department, Reggie Carroll, who did stand-up acts at comedy clubs all over the nation, passed away on August 20 after being a part of a shooting in northern Mississippi. He was fifty-two.
Authorities posted on Facebook on August 23 that "Southaven officers located one male victim suffering from gunshot wounds." "The person passed away from his wounds despite the officers and medical staff providing life-saving techniques."
The police department stated that the incident was thought to be an isolated shooting and that the investigation is still ongoing.
The statement went on to say, "One male is in custody and has been charged with Reginald Carroll's murder." "We appreciate the community's understanding and patience."
Following the devastating news, Club Mobtown Comedy honored the cherished Maryland native, who also appeared on television in the 2022 film Rent & Go and the 2023 standup special Knockout King of Comedy.
“Rest in power, @comedianreggiecarroll,” the club wrote on Instagram on Aug. 23. “Thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
As she reflected on how fleeting life is, fellow comedian Mo'Nique recalled her "brother in comedy," sharing happy memories.
The Oscar winner posted on her Instagram Story, "This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you'll get a chance to see them again, and that was the last time I and my brother Reggie, girl, were together." “I have no sad tears because all of our times together were amazing.” “That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together. What a time.
Jonathan Carroll, Reggie's brother, also wrote a few words of his own to express gratitude to friends and supporters for their support and to request that their family remain private.
He posted on Facebook on August 23: "Thank you to everyone who sent condolences for Reggie Carroll's passing. Your love has been greatly appreciated." "We are requesting that everyone hold off on disclosing any information until we have verified all the facts due to the delicate nature of Reg's passing."
