According to a press release from the Suffolk County Police Department, fashion designer Martha Nolan-O'Slatarra of Manhattan was discovered dead on a boat anchored at the upscale marina on August 5.
Around midnight, a man discovered the 33-year-old woman unconscious and called East Hampton Town Police. Authorities claim that Nolan-O'Slatarra was declared dead on the boat even though others tried to perform CPR on her.
According to Suffolk Police, an autopsy will be performed to gather more details because the preliminary investigation's findings regarding her cause of death were inconclusive.
After her passing, the 16-acre waterfront property known as the Montauk Yacht Club offered its condolences.
A representative told CBS News, "We are saddened to learn of the tragic incident that took place." "Our team is cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation and remains committed to the safety and well-being of our guests and staff."
Almost two months ago, Nolan-O'Slatarra's swimsuit and resortwear-focused fashion brand East x East opened a pop-up shop at Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa, which is only six miles from the yacht club.
For the designer, her business was an ode to Long Island's East End and New York City.
"Our tagline is built in the city, made for the sun," Nolan-O'Slatarra said in a TikTok video from April of last year. "I think it resonates with so many people on so many levels because at some point, everyone in their lives is grinding, but everyone's destined for the sun."
She laughed, "I know I am, and pretty much everyone else is, so I think it was very fitting."
Growing up in Ireland, Nolan-O'Slatarra's entrepreneurial journey required her to relocate to New York.
"I was the small-town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams," she told the Irish Independent that February. "I always knew I wanted to be successful, that I was money-driven and business-driven, and that fashion is a tough industry and it would be a slow road."
