Olympic gold medalist and world champion sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport after an alleged altercation with her boyfriend, fellow athlete Christian Coleman. The incident  reportedly involved a heated argument that turned physical, prompting law enforcement to intervene.

According to witnesses and airport surveillance footage, Richardson and Coleman were seen arguing near a TSA checkpoint when the situation escalated. Richardson allegedly shoved Coleman with considerable force, causing him to stumble into a nearby pillar. She then reportedly followed him and threw a pair of headphones at him as the confrontation continued. Airport police quickly responded and detained Richardson at the scene.

Coleman, though involved, declined to press charges and told officers he did not wish to be treated as a victim. Despite his refusal, authorities proceeded with an arrest based on the evidence collected, charging Richardson with fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

Richardson was booked into the South Correctional Entity Jail in Des Moines, Washington, where she remained for nearly 19 hours before being released by court order the following afternoon. Neither she nor her legal representatives have publicly commented on the matter.

The arrest came just days before the start of the 2025 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Despite the controversy, Richardson competed in the women’s 100-meter preliminary round on July 31, finishing with a time of 11.07 seconds and securing a spot in the semifinals. However, she later withdrew from both the 100-meter semifinal and the 200-meter event, raising speculation about how the incident may have affected her mentally and emotionally.

At 25, Richardson remains one of the most electrifying figures in track and field. Known for her blistering speed and bold personal style, she has become a cultural icon beyond the sport. She claimed silver in the 100 meters and gold in the women’s 4×100-meter relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics and holds the title of reigning world champion in the 100 meters.
