Kristin Cabot has officially resigned from her role as Chief People Officer at Astronomer, days after a viral kiss-cam moment at a Coldplay concert sparked controversy and speculation. The now-infamous video, captured at a show held at Gillette Stadium, showed Cabot and then-Astronomer CEO Andy Byron cuddling on the stadium’s jumbotron. As they realized they were on camera, the two quickly attempted to hide their faces, prompting onlookers and even Coldplay’s frontman to react with surprise.

The clip quickly spread across social media, igniting discussions about workplace ethics, marital boundaries and the responsibilities of tech executives in the public eye. Both Cabot and Byron were reportedly married to other people at the time, intensifying public interest in the incident.

On July 19, just days after the video went viral, Byron resigned from his position as CEO. The company’s board confirmed that he had been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation and that cofounder Pete DeJoy would take over as interim CEO. His resignation was interpreted by many as an attempt to limit reputational damage to the company, which has positioned itself as a key player in the AI and data infrastructure space.

Cabot’s resignation followed shortly after, with Astronomer confirming that she had stepped down voluntarily. She had only recently joined the company in late 2024 and had been leading HR operations. Her departure, particularly given her role as a senior figure in charge of people management and ethics, raised further concerns about leadership standards.

The kiss-cam incident has since taken on a life of its own online, becoming a meme and generating widespread commentary on privacy, public perception and professional boundaries. For Astronomer, a company already under pressure in the competitive tech sector, the sudden exits mark a moment of reputational reckoning.

Interim CEO Pete DeJoy has acknowledged the incident in a public statement, expressing a commitment to maintaining the company’s focus and values despite the distractions. As Astronomer searches for new permanent leadership, the Coldplay kiss-cam saga remains a cautionary tale of how private moments can become very public and professionally costly.
