Matty Healy's mom, Denise Welch, recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and she did not hold back when asked about her son's brief relationship with Taylor Swift. The British actress and TV personality was asked how she felt about Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department, which many fans believe includes songs about Healy.

"Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode," Welch said with a laugh, then added, "but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost." This comment drew gasps from the audience, prompting her to quickly clarify, "Not that I have anything against her at all! It was just, it was tricky."

Welch then went on to point out the double standards she sees in how Taylor Swift is treated. Hinting at Swift's tendency to turn her personal experiences into lyrics she said, "Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it."

Welch however made it clear that his son Healy isn't dwelling on that situation. "He's taken it all in completely good grace," she said. She confirmed that he has moved on and is even engaged to model and musician Gabriette Bechtel. "He's very happy with his amazing fiancée. She's gorgeous," Welch added. "So we've moved on."

Hearly and Swift's relationship was a short one which lasted just over a month in 2023. They were first linked in May after Swift's breakup with her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Hearly was seen at multiple Eras Tour concerts before the pair being seen together in New York City and the studio. However, in early June, it was reported that they had separated.

Fans flooded social media with opinions, some criticizing Welch for her comments, while others defended her. One fan wrote, "The honour is Swift's actually for dodging a huge bullet," while another said, "Actually no, the whole album was not about your son ..that would be baffling."
Since then, Swift has moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce.
