Fauja Singh, the man who inspired generations with his boundless energy and record-setting achievements, has died at the age of 114 after being struck by a vehicle near his village in Punjab, India. Known around the world as the first centenarian to complete a full marathon, Singh's death marks the end of a remarkable life that defied age and redefined human potential.

Singh, born in 1911, captivated global attention in 2011 when he completed the Toronto Waterfront Marathon at the age of 100. Despite not being recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records due to the absence of an official birth certificate—common in India at the time—his legacy as an elite elder athlete was never in doubt.

His biographer, Khushwant Singh, confirmed the news on X, stating that Fauja was struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing the road in his village of Bias. Police are investigating the incident and working to identify the driver who fled the scene.

Although Singh only began running competitively at the age of 89 after relocating to London, his accomplishments quickly garnered global admiration. He completed multiple full marathons and 10-kilometer races before officially retiring in 2013. His best recorded time came in 2003 when he finished a marathon in just five hours and 40 minutes.

Tributes have poured in from across the world, including from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described Singh as "an exceptional athlete with incredible determination." His story became a beacon of hope and resilience, demonstrating that age is not a barrier to achieving greatness.

Singh's enduring charm lay not just in his athletic feats, but in his humility and commitment to inspiring others. He often ran in traditional Sikh attire, including his trademark turban, earning him the affectionate nickname "The Turbaned Tornado."

His life was one of triumph over limitation, and his death has left a void in the global running community. Fauja Singh may no longer be among us, but his legacy continues to run strong in the hearts of millions.
