In the wake of Sean “Diddy” Combs being acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges but convicted on two counts under the Mann Act, former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day released a forceful statement condemning the outcome as both “dishonest” and “dangerous”.
Taking to Instagram shortly after jurors delivered the verdict, O’Day began with a stark reflection, “I’m still unpacking the magnitude of it all. The cultural weight of this decision is immeasurable.” She expressed heartbreak for the survivors whose voices, she argued, “fell short in the eyes of a jury.”
Highlighting her solidarity with Cassie Ventura, the star witness, O’Day declared, “My heart is with Cassie. A woman who could’ve had a life and career free of fear and control.” In her view, Ventura displayed immense bravery by speaking out and yet, O’Day lamented, “the world dissect(ed) her credibility instead of her courage.”
O’Day also criticized what she described as a troubling cultural narrative surrounding Diddy and Ventura’s relationship, one that reframed it as a Bonnie and Clyde romance. She slammed this portrayal as false, asserting their relationship was rooted in “control, coercion and abuse.” “That narrative is not just dishonest. It’s dangerous,” she emphasized.
Further underscoring her concerns, O’Day reminded readers that “the courtroom operates by the law, but that DOES NOT mean it delivers justice.” Quoting her Instagram story, she said the verdict risks legitimizing a pattern of abusive behavior that she believes “risks being reframed and has now been legitimized by the system.”
The former “Making the Band” star concluded her statement with a rallying cry, “Women, nor men, nor ANY ARTIST are the property of those with the most wealth, fame & power. We are not disposable. 12 people on a jury will not be deciding that for us.”
